DEVELOPMENT OF MONITORING METHODSPOLLUTIONMARINE ENVIRONMENT
WAO Nature & Conservation supports the implementation of monitoring programs based on bio-indication.
We are working on :
The development of protocols for collecting standard data and assessing wildlife-waste interactions
The creation of networks of stakeholders, and their harmonization through training, for the collection of standard data (necessary to enable comparisons over time and space, and to evaluate the restoration efforts implemented).
Statistical analysis of data, to take stock of the situation, assess impacts on individual health and population dynamics, and determine thresholds beyond which these impacts are deemed irreversible or too great.
Interaction with experts (scientists, veterinarians, biologists from care centers, fishermen, associations, etc.), environmental managers and policymakers (OFB, Ministries of Ecology, MSFD, OSPAR, UNEP/Barcelone,…)

On the issue of the impact of waste, WAO Nature & Conservation is working, in partnership with various stakeholders, on assessing the ingestion of micro- and macro-plastics, and the risks of entanglement, in sea turtles, birds (marine and terrestrial) and fish. We are also collaborating on the TORPP (Turtles One health Research and Plastic Pollution) project, with the aim of developing a “One Health” approach that takes into account both wildlife and human health.
